John 7:10-24

Jesus Teaches Openly at the Temple John 7:10-24 Summary After Jesus' brothers left for the festival Jesus went secretly to the festival. He stayed out of sight. The Jewish leaders were asking people if they had seen Jesus. Some of the crowds of people were saying that Jesus was a wonderful man while others said He's nothing but a fraud, deciding the people. But no one had the courage to speak favorably about him in public, for they were afraid of getting in trouble with the Jewish leaders. Midway through the festival Jesus went to the Temple to teach. The Jewish leaders asked, "How does he know so much as he hasn't studied everything we've studied?" Jesus told them that he wasn't teaching them his own ideas but the ideas of the One who had sent him. Anyone who wants to do the will of God will know whether my teaching is from God or is merely my own. Those who present their own ideas are looking for praise for themselves, but those who seek to honor the one who sent them are good and genuine. None of you obeys the law of Moses! In fact, you are trying to kill me. The crowd said, "Who trying to kill you? You are demon possessed. Jesus replied, "I worked on the Sabbath by healing a man, and you were offended, but you work on the Sabbath, too, when you obey Moses' law of circumcision. For if the correct time for the circumcising you son falls on the Sabbath, you go ahead and do it. So why I should be condemned for making a man completely well on the Sabbath? Think this through and you will see that I am right. (Thought) Jesus didn't want to go to the festival with his brothers. He did go but in secret so would not be seen until he was ready to be seen. The Jewish leaders were amazed at what Jesus was teaching as they didn't think he had the teaching that they had. Jesus healing on the Sabbath was no different than someone circumcising their son on the Sabbath. Jesus made that clear.
