Jesus Sentenced to Death (3)

John 19:7-16
The Jewish leaders replied, "By our laws he ought to die because he called himself the Son of God."

When Pilate heard this, he was more frightened than ever. He took Jesus back into the headquarters again and asked him, "Where are you from?" But Jesus gave him no answer. "You won't talk to me?" Pilate demanded. "Don't you realize that I have the power to release you or to crucify you?"

Then Jesus said, "You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above. So the one who brought me to you has the greater sin."

Then Pilate tried to release him, but the Jewish leaders told him, "If you release this man, you are not a friend of Caesar. Anyone who declares himself a king is a rebel against Caesar."

When they said this, Pilate brought Jesus out to them again. Then Pilate sat down on the judgment seat on the platform that is called the Stone Pavement (in Hebrew, Gabbatha.) It was now about noon of the day of preparation for the Passover. And Pilate said to the people, "Here is your king!"

"Away with him," they yelled. "Away with him crucify him!"

"What? Crucify your king?"  Pilate asked.

"We have no king but Caesar," the leading priests shouted back.

Then Pilate gave Jesus to them to be crucified.

Jesus Sentenced to Death (Part 2)

John 19:4-7
Pilate went outside again and said to the people, "I am going to bring him out to you now, but understand clearly that I find him not quality."

Then Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe.  And Pilate said, "Here is the man!"

When they saw him, the leading priests and Temple guards began shouting, "Crucify, Crucify!"

"You crucify him," Pilate said. "I find him not guilty."

The Jewish leaders replied, "By our laws he ought to die because he called himself the Son of God."

The Pain Jesus Endured For Us

John 19:1-4
Then Pilate had Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip. The soldiers made a crown of long, sharp thorns and put it on his head and they put a royal purple robe on him. "Hail! King of the Jews!" they mocked, and they hit him with their fists.

Jeus" Trial before Pilate

John 18:28-40 (NLT)
Jesus' trial before Caiaphas ended in the early hours of the morning. Then he was taken to the headquarters of the Roman governor. His accusers didn't go in themselves because it would defile them, and they wouldn't be allowed to celebrate the Passover feast. So Pilate, the governor, went out to them and asked, "What is your charge against this man?"

We wouldn't have handed him over to you if he weren't a criminal!" they retorted. Then take him away and judge him by your own laws," Pilate told them.

"Only the Romans are permitted to execute someone."  the Jewish leaders replied. This fulfilled Jesus' prediction about the way he would die.

Then Pilate went back inside and called for Jesus to be brought to him. "Are you the King of the Jews?" he asked him.

Jesus replied, "Is this your own question, or did others tell you about me?"

"Am I a Jew?: Pilate asked, "Your own people and their leading priests brought you here. Why" What have you done?

Then Jesus answered, "I am not an earthly king. If I were, my followers would have fought when I was arrested by the Jewish leaders. But my Kingdom is not of this world."

Pilate replied, "You are a king then?" You say that I am a king, and you are right." Jesus said. "I was born for that purpose. And I came to bring truth to the world. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true."

"What is truth?" Pilate asked. Then he went out again to the people and told them, "He is not quility of any crime. But you have a custom of asking me to release someone from prison each year at Passover. So if you want me to, I'll release the King of the Jews."

But they shouted back, "No! Not this man, but Barabbas!" (Barabbas was a criminal.)

Peter's Secon AND Third Denials

John 18:25-26 (NLT)
Meanwhile, as Simon Peter was standing by the fire, they asked him again, "Aren't you one of his disciples?"

"I am not," he said.
But one of the household servants of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, "Didn't I see you out there in the olive grove with Jesus?" Again Peter denied it. And immediately a rooster crowded.
*Petr was told by Jesus that he was going to deny Jesus three times. And it happened.

High Priest Questions Jesus

John 18:19-24 (NLT)
Inside, the high priest began asking Jesus about his followers and what he had been teaching them,  Jesus replied, "What I teach is widely known, because I have preached regularly in the synagogues and the Temple. I have been heard by people everywhere, and I teach nothing in private that I have not said in public. Why are you asking me this question? Ask those who heard me. They know what I said."

One of the Temple guards standing there struck Jesus on the face. "Is that the way to answer the high priest?: he demanded.

Jesus replied, "If I said anything wrong, you must give evidence for it. Should you hit a man for telling the truth?

Then Annas bound Jesus and sent him to Caiaphas, the high priest.

Peter Denies Jesus

John 18:15-18
And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest. But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out the other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and space unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter. Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of the man's disciples? He saith, I am not. And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals, for it was cold, and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.

Jesus Appears Before Annas

John 18:12-14
Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him. And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caliaphas, which was the high priest that same year. Now Calaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should dies for the people.
*Jesus and his disciples were in the Garden and Judas came with his army of men to
take Jesus as a prisoner. Now Jesus is bound and being led to Annas.

Betrayal in the Garden

John 18:1-11
When Jesus had spoken these words, (17:20-26) he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.

And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes reported thither with his disciples.

Judas then having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh hither with lanterns and torched and weapons.

Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, "Whom seek ye?"

They answered him, "Jesus of Nazareth," Jesus saith unto them " I am he." And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. Then asked he them again, "Whom seek ye?" And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus answered, "I have told you that I am he;" if there for ye seek me, let these go their way: That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.

Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.

Then said Jesus unto Peter, "Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?"

Jesus' Prayer for Himself

John 17:1-5
These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, "Father the hour is come glorify thy Son, that the Son also may glorify thee. As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which tho gavest me to do. And now, O Father glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was."

*And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Have Peace

John 16:17-33 Read

John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

*Jesus spoke to disciples about having sorrow but then it shall turn into joy. Jesus must leave but they will see him again. Your joy no man takes from you.

Words of Warning

John 16:1-16 Read

John 16:1-4
These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. They shall put you out of the synagogues: ye, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

*Jesus tells his disciples what is to take place before He leaves them so that they will not be surprised. They don't understand where Jesus is going but they also hear about the Comforter coming and He will help them through the things that are about to happen.

*Question
Are we ready for the things that will take place in our day?

World Will Hate Jesus' Followers

John 15:18-27

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

If ye were of the world,, the world would Love his own; but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his Lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.

He that hateth me hateth my Falther also.

If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, they hated me without a cause.

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: and ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

True Vine

John 15:1-17 (Read)

John 15:4
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine, no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

John 15:5
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing.

John 15:12-13
This is my commandment, That ye Love one another, as I have loved you. Greater Love bath no man that this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

*All these verse found in John 15-17 are great verses. I just picked out a few. I would encourage you to read the whole passage.

*We have the Comforter today. He also teaches us all things and brings to our remembrance all that the Lord has spoken.

Ask In Jesus' Name

Read John 14:5-14

John 14:13
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

*Whenever we pray for something we need to ask it in Jesus' name. It will be answered so that His Father may be glorified in the Son.

Kept His Commandments

John 14:15
If ye Love me, keep my commandments.

*Question
How many of the Lord's commandments do you know?

A House of Many Mansions

John 14:1-4
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

* What a beautiful thought.

Personal Challenge

This morning was one of those kind of mornings in which everything I thought about came out negative. I'm not a good wife, I'm not a good Christian, I'm not a good housekeeper. I finally had enough of woe-is-me thinking and I ask God why I was believing all those lies. It came down to not enough time in God's word. We are doing a study here, which I find a great help, but not enough. So I had been thinking for some time in doing more Bible reading. I had a chance to start it today.

I had an appointment to get a test today and I was thinking I didn't need to take my big pocketbook so I got my small one and took that. However, I forgot that I would be going to work with my husband and my big pocketbook had my phone and Kindle in it. I has also left the book I was reading home. . So no books when I got to church. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. For this gave me the opportunity to get my notebook out and start my project.

First thing I did was get a Bible and then open it up to Genesis and copied down how many chapters it had in it. Then I went through the Old Testament books and did the same for all of them. I wasn't sure how I was going to read them as some had 50 chapters and some only had four or less. Instead of doing the New Testament also I decided to just start out reading the Old Testament books. I figured that I read a lot of fiction books why not spend my time reading the Bible. After I put down the chapters I started with Genesis chapter 1. I took notes as I read. Then I continued to read to chapter 22. I was thinking that was a good start. So now when I go to the church I will spend some of my time reading the Bible. Taking notes when I feel I need to remember what I read. I found it refreshing just reading the chapters and finding out more than just creation and Noah's story.

So my personal challenge is to read the Old Testament as if it was one of my books from the library. And that way get closer to my Lord and God my Father.

*Question
Do you have some time on your hands where you can just sit down and read the Bible through?

A New Commandment

John 13:31-38

John 13:34-35
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye Love one another, as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have Love one to another.

*Jesus told the people that He had a new command for them and that was to love one another and to love others as Jesus has loved them. By doing this people would then know that they were disciples of the Lord.

*Question
Do you love others like Christ has loved you?

Jesus Preparing for His Betrayal

John 13:18-30 (Read the full portion so can get whole concept of the verses)

John 13:18-19 (KJV)
I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me. Now I tell you before it come, that when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.

John  13:18-19 (NLT)
I am not saying these things to all of you; I know so well each one of you I chose. The Scriptures declare, The one who shares my food has turned against me, and this will soon come true. I tell you this now, so that when it happens you will believe I am the Messiah.

* Let's Talk About It
Jesus knew that one of his disciples was going to betray him. He knew that the Devil was going to enter into him after he ate from the supper. Jesus knows what we will do also. He knows our hearts and what we plan to do. Judas didn't realize at the time he betrayed Jesus how wrong it was. He was just after the money. He would soon find out what it meant to betray Jesus.

*Question
Like Judas, do we know what it means to betray Jesus? To go against Him in our deeds and thoughts. Do we fully realize what this does to us and how bad Jesus feels about it?

Jesus Washes the Feet of the Disciples

John 13:1-17(NLT)

Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He now showed the disciples the full extent of his Love. It was time for supper, and the Devil had already enticed Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to carry out his plan to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel he had around him. When he came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, "Lord, why are you going to wash my feet:" Jesus replied, "You don't understand now why I am doing it; someday you will." "No," Peter protested, "you will never wash my feet!" Jesus replied, "But if I don't wash you, you won't belong to me." Simon Peter exclaimed, "Then wash my hands and head as well, Lord, not just my feet!" Jesus replied, "A person who has bathed all over does not need to wash, except for the feet, to be entirely clean. And you are clean but that isn't true of everyone here." For Jesus knew who would betray him. That is what he meant when he said, "Not all of you are clean."

After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, "Do you understand what I was doing? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right because it is true. And since I, the Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other's feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. How true it is that a servant is not greater than the master. Nor are messengers greater than the master. Nor are messengers more important that the one who sends them. You know these things now do them! That is the path of blessing.
