Abraham's Seed
John 8:31-43
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, "if ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
*It is the same for us today. If we continue in God's word we are disciples of the Lord as we are following His teachings. Because we are following His ways we will know the truth and it His truth that shall make us free. (Amen!)
They answer him, "We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man how says thou, 'Ye shall be made free?'"
* They had a different outlook then we might have. Being that most of us are not Jewish we are Gentiles so we would not be the seed of Abraham, but if we were, we might think this way ourselves. Let's see what Jesus tells them.
.Jesus answered them, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committed sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abided not in the house for ever; but the Son abided ever. The Son there shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your Father."
*Any one who commits sin is its servant. A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. So if the Son sets you free you are free indeed. Jesus goes on and tells them that He is just telling them what He has seen when He was with His Father. And they are doing what they see their father do.
They answered and said unto him, "Abraham is our father," Jesus saith unto them, "If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. Ye do the deed of your father." Then said they to him, "We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
*They kept telling Jesus that Abraham was their father and Jesus kept telling them If they were the children of Abraham then they would do the works of Abraham but they are seeking to kill him. This is not of Abraham. They do the deeds of their father. Then they said they have only one Father, and that was God.
Jesus said unto them, "If God were your Father, ye would love me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I myself but he sent me. Why do ye not understand any speech? even because ye cannot hear any word.
*If God was your Father you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me. Why can't you understand what I am saying. You are the children of your father the Devil and you love to do the evil things he does.
We will find out next time what the people thought about what Jesus just told them. Come back and find out or better yet read on and then we will look at it together.
Question-How would you have felt if you were told you were the children of the Devil?

Jesus Speaks for the Father
Jesus Speaks for the Father
John 8:23-30( NLT)
Later Jesus said to them again "I am going away. You will search for me and die in your sin. You cannot come where I am going."
The Jewish leaders asked, "Is he planning to commit suicide? What does he mean, 'You cannot come where I am going'?"
Then he said to them, "You are from below, I am from above. You are of this world, I am not. That is why I said that you will die in yours sins, for unless you believe that I am who I say I am, you will die in your sins."
Tell us who you are," they demanded.
Jesus replied, "I am the one I have always claimed to be." I have much to say about you and much to condemn, but I won't. For I say only what I have heard from the one who sent me, and he is true." But they still didn't understand that he was talking to them about his Father.
So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man on the cross, then you will realize that I am he and that I do nothing on my own, but I speak what the Father taught me. And the one who sent me is with me-he has not deserted me. For I always do those things that are pleasing to him? Then many who heard him say these things believed in him.

Jesus, the Light of the World
Jesus, the Light of the World
John 8:12-20 (NLT)
Jesus said to the people, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't be stumbling through the darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."
The Pharisees replied, "You are making false claims about yourself."
Jesus told them, "These claims are valid even though I made them about myself. For I know where I came from and where I am going, but you don't know this about me. You judge me with all your human limitations, but I am not judging anyone. And if I did, my judgment would be correct in every respect because I am not alone-I have with me the Father who sent me. Your own law says that if two people agree about something, their witness is accepted as fact. I am one witness, and my Father who sent me is the other."
Where is your father?" they asked.
Jesus answered, "Since you don't know who I am, you don't know who my Father is. If you knew me, then you would know my Father, too." Jesus made these statements while he was teaching in the section of the Temple known as the Treasury. But he was not arrested, because his time had not yet come.

Stuck In The Bathroom
From time to time I like to give you a report on what is going on in my life. The experience shows how the Lord is working in my life.
Yesterday was a kind of day that I hope never happens again.
My husband and I went out for lunch. The first thing that happened was my husband order hot tea without any milk. He go coffee with at least six containers of milk. I got water so I traded my water for the coffee and drank it without milk as I like it black. Next we had the soup and sandwich choice for our lunch. We waited and waited for our soup. We finally got it the same time we received our sandwiches. Usually we get the soup first. My husband got crackers with his but I didn't get any. Finally, I needed to go to the rest room. I got there and shut the door and locked it. Someone came and wanted to get in. I said wait a minute and I washed my hand, unlocked the door and tried opening the door. It would not open. The woman was helping from the outside. She couldn't get it opened either. I knocked on the door and she asked me if I wanted to come out and we tried the door again. By this time another lady had come and she pushed on the door and it came open and I was able to leave. I was so happy and relieved as I was getting anxious while stuck in the bathroom. I was telling the first lady don't shut the door tightly but she slammed it shut. I was thinking she was going to have a hard time opening it back up. They didn't seem to have any more problems so I guess everyone got out without any more problems.
I am so glad that I could pray that I would get out ok. I kept saying to myself someone will be able to open the door.

John 8:1-11
Jesus Forgives an Adulterous Woman
John 8:1-11
Jesus went unto the Mount of Olives. And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. And the scribed and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, they said unto him, "Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what do you say." This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stopped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her." And again, he stopped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, "Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?' She said, "No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, "Neither do I condemn thee; go, and sin no more."

Review John 7
Review
John 7
Jesus and His Brothers-John 7:1-9
Jesus did not want to go to the Festival with His brothers for they did not believe in Him. After brothers left for the Festival Jesus went to the Festival.
Jesus Teaches Openly at the Temple-John 10-24
There were a lot of people discussing Jesus. Some said He was a wonderful man, others said He is nothing but a fraud deceiving the people. But now one had the courage to speak favorably about him in public for they were afraid of getting in trouble with the Jewish leaders.
When Jesus began to speak in the Temple the Jewish leaders were surprised in how much he knew because they didn't think He hadn't studied as much as they did.
Jesus told them that He wasn't teaching His own ideas but those idea of the one that sent Him.
Jesus The Messiah-John 7:25-36
How could He be the Messiah the people knew from where He came. The Messiah, to them, was a person who would simply appear, no one will know where he comes from. There were many in the Temple that believed in Him. The priest sent Temple guards to arrest Jesus.
Jesus Promises Living Water-John 7:37-39
Division and Unbelief-John 7:40-53
The Pharisees mocked the Temple guards because they did not arrest Jesus and asked if they had been led astray too. For not one single one of the rulers or Pharisees believed in Jesus. The ignorant crowds do but what do they know about it. A curse on them anyway.

John 7:45-53
The Pharisees' Unbelief
John 7:45-53
Galilee, too
The Temple guards who had been sent to arrest Jesus returned to the leading priests and Pharisees, "Why didn't you bring him in?" they demanded. "We have never heard anyone talk like this!" the guards responded. "Have you been led astray, too?" the Pharisees mocked. "Is there a single one of us rulers or Pharisees who believes in him? These ignorant crowds do, but what do they know about it? A curse on them anyway!" Nicodemus, the leader who had met with Jesus earlier, then spoke up. "Is it legal to convict a man before he is given a hearing?" he asked. They replied, "Are you from Galilee, too? Search the Scriptures and see for yourself-no prophet ever comes from Galilee!" Then the meeting broke up and everybody went home.
